Ultimate Adventures: Hour One of an Air Berlin Flight
By: Yolanda Clatworthy
Kiora! Hi! Hallo!
Those are all of the ways I have been greeted so far, and my Triptrotting journey officially just began a couple hours ago!
My travels haven’t though—I spent eight days in New Zealand before this. The first six were absolutely wonderful, but Murphy’s Law kicked in for the last two—they were spent snowed in at the airport. The first snow to land in Christchurch in twenty years may have been their “icing on the quake” but it certainly wasn’t the way I’d envisioned topping off my journey!
The blizzard threw a massive loop in my plans—instead of reasonable flights and time spent exploring LA with the Triptrotting team, I am now on my third straight day of travel. I’ve spent sleepless nights at the airport, caught 5:30am flights, been poked by kids while trying to catnap in a corner of the Auckland Airport, and remembered just how much I hate American Customs. Pretty much the only thing I haven’t done is shower (gross, I know).
Which is why I was ecstatic to finally land in LA, where I was able to meet and lunch with members of the Triptrotting team. Check out the video!
Aika and Maddie, thank you so much for taking me to lunch, “The Counter” has officially assumed title as restaurant with the best burgers. Just another example of how the Triptrotting notion of local knowledge really is the best—never would have found that place without you guys!
And finally, this is it! After a couple short hours in LA, I’m now on my Air Berlin flight to Germany where my official Triptrotting will begin. So far it’s looking promising: Friends is on TV, the stewardesses all have adorable German accents, and the smell of some delicious meal has started to waft through the cabin. Dinner time! And best of all, Air Berlin just handed out goody bags full of ear plugs, sleep masks, and socks. Socks I tell you! I think it’s dinner and sleep time for me, see you all in Berlin!
Tune into Triptrotting TV to follow my adventures this summer!
